A Link Is Only the Beginning

It starts with a link you deliberately choose. Send a public X post or webpage through the MyCrystal Telegram bot, or email it from your verified sign-in address. MyCrystal retrieves the readable source and preserves what it said as clean Markdown in your private vault.

Preservation is the beginning, not the finished product. MyCrystal automatically inserts AI-generated wiki links such as Attention and Active reading into the Markdown. Open one to see where that concept recurs. Backlinks surface the relevant passages in other notes, letting new material meet knowledge already in your vault.

The AI creates connections; it does not decide what those connections mean. That is why an AI summary is not the default reading surface. A summary can be convenient, but it can also substitute the model’s interpretation for the reading, questioning, and context that make a source personally useful.

Active reading begins when that preserved source becomes material you can question, annotate, and connect. The goal is not to clear another inbox. It is to create a quieter place where useful ideas remain available when you are ready to think with them.

What we choose to preserve is a record of Attention. Over time, those choices reveal recurring questions and interests that an algorithmic feed cannot define on our behalf.

A Digital garden becomes valuable through these relationships. A note about reading can meet a note about research, design, or memory because they share a concept—not because they arrived next to each other in a feed.

Because the vault is web-based, it remains available from your phone or computer without requiring a local setup. Knowledge ownership means that convenience does not become lock-in: the source remains readable and editable, and the Markdown can leave MyCrystal whenever you choose.

Remembering is therefore not perfect recall. It is the ability to return, add context, revise an idea, and let one deliberate choice become part of a larger body of thought.
